The last bullettin from Blogs of Malta was typed way back in May when Sandro was still alive and the blogosphere was preparing for another meetup. Summer is always a slowdown period for blogs and blogging and thank god for that because it would be a sad, sad world the day we prefer the PC/Mac to a nice mat on the beach by the sea.
Meanwhile the blogosphere continues to emulate the universe by expanding and contracting (we still have not found the restaurant at the end of each expansion/contraction yet) and participants tend to redefine themselves as they please.
This particular phase of the blogosfera's life has been a bit individualistic - in the sense that most bloggers retreated to the confines of their own blogs and barring a little set of miniclusters of similarly themed blogs there has been precious few cross-referencing and cross-blog discussions.
The impact of the demi-blogs has been quite interesting. By demi-blogs I mean the blogs owned by those who crossed from media columns to blogs. They are firmly convinced that they are a blog/bloggers but refuse to interact with the rest of the blogosphere in the normal way. There has been a negative impact in the sense that mainstream idea of what is a blog is being formed by non-blogs in the first place. But that should not worry bona fide bloggers anyway... in the end the blog as the ultimate medium of free expression must retain its general motto and ideal ... blog and let blog...
